LUCKNOW: After a gap of 18 years, students of Lucknow University will get an opportunity to soak their hands in mud and create a masterpiece during the ‘Earthwork Art Camp’ being organized by the university’s College of Arts and Crafts from Monday.
The week-long camp, that will culminate on May 16, will help students learn the art of using earth or mud to add beauty to landscapes from experts in the field. Any student from LU or its affiliated college can join the camp for free.
“We have decided to teach students something new and industry-oriented. In the seven-day workshop, students will learn everything related to earth artwork, be it digging mud and giving it an artistic shape or using mud to create a sculpture,” said faculty from the sculpture department Vibhavri Singh.
The camp will begin at 8am and continue till noon. The students will be making the artwork near Prof Ranveer Singh Bisht Boys’ Hostel and in front of the department.
Singh said earthwork is art made by shaping land itself or forms in the land using natural material like rocks or tree branches. Earthwork ranges from subtle, temporary interventions in the landscape to significant, sculptural, lasting alterations made with heavy earth-moving machinery.
