Cammy MacPherson: St Johnstone midfielder keen to make up for lost time

Cammy MacPherson admits he couldn’t believe it when St Johnstone came calling.

Now the midfielder on loan from Scottish Premiership rivals St Mirren is determined to make up for lost time.

The 22-year-old was a deadline day arrival having previously caught the eye of Perth manager Callum Davidson.

While MacPherson frustratingly picked up a shoulder injury before making his competitive debut, he is now back in the starting mix.

“I couldn’t believe it to be honest,” MacPherson said of Saints’ interest. “I was very happy.

“As soon as I heard the gaffer was interested and I spoke to him, he ticked all the boxes for me. I couldn’t wait to get up here. Not many people have the option of coming to the cup double winners.

“It’s been brilliant for me to get a wee change because I felt that is what I needed at this point in my career. The gaffer has been really good with me, I’ve enjoyed it and the boys are a great bunch."

MacPherson knows he has a fight on his hands for a regular start.

He added: “There is very good competition in the midfield but that is what you need.

“I want to just focus on playing football again. The last 12 or 18 months has been a bit stop-start for me.

“I want a run of games and see what can happen from there. It is tough when you aren’t playing but that is part and parcel of football.”

It goes without saying that MacPherson hopes to be involved in plenty of Perth success and not any more results like Saturday. Saints went down 3-0 at home to Livingston and, uncharacteristically, were the architects of their own downfall.

“It was very disappointing the way the game panned out, to be honest,” MacPherson reflected.

“It was a very weird game to be part of because I didn’t think there was much between the teams, but it’s ended up 3-0. We need to hold our hands up and say that we weren’t good enough.

“I know from playing against St Johnstone in the past that it is a team that is very hard to break down. To hand three goals away is not good enough. We just need to hope it was an off day and that it won’t happen again.

“We need to put the game to the back of our minds and bounce back next week. Hopefully we go to Parkhead and get a result.”
