Cammy Bell seals Queen's Park move as Spiders win race for former Rangers keeper

Queen's Park have won the race to sign former Rangers keeper Cammy Bell.

Raith Rovers were understood to be interested while Barry Ferguson was keen to add the 33-year-old to his squad at ambitious Lowland League leaders Kelty Hearts.

The Spiders' League Two rivals Cove Rangers made up a quartet of sides interested in his services, but after Record Sport reported on Wednesday that Ray McKinnon's Queen's Park were at the front of the queue, the club have announced his signing until the end of the season.

Bell was a free agent after being released by Falkirk in the closing days of the January transfer window and had been weighing up his options before reuniting with McKinnon for a third time.

McKinnon signed the keeper for Dundee United and again for the Bairns in the summer.

He has now added the experienced number one to his ranks as the Spiders - who turned professional two months ago after 152 years of amateur status - make a push for the play-off spots.

Bell had been training with the Hampden outfit and could go into the squad to face Stirling Albion at the weekend.

Cove, Raith and Kelty had hoped to tempt the shotstopper - who turned in an inspired performance to help Kilmarnock to League Cup Final glory against Celtic eight years ago - to sign.

Bell made 131 appearances for Killie before joining Rangers in 2013 where he played his part in the Ibrox club's rise back from the third division.

After 57 appearances for the Light Blues, Bell moved to Dundee United and has also had spells with Hibs, Partick Thistle and St Johnstone before joining Falkirk last summer.
