Cammy Bell resigns as Annan Athletic director of football after just five months

Cammy Bell has resigned as Annan Athletic director of football after just five months in the role.

The former Rangers and Kilmarnock goalkeeper returned to his hometown club in a boardroom capacity in December.

But the 34-year-old is stepping down from the role now the season has come to an end with Annan finishing eighth in League Two.

Record Sport understands differing views at boardroom level on the next step for the club are behind his decision.

Bell said: “It’s disappointing especially with Annan being my home club. But these things happen in football and we move on to see what else comes about.”

Bell called time on his playing career while with Queen’s Park last year after a catalogue of injuries took their toll.

He took the step into the unknown back in December at Galabank and had big ambitions for the club.

His own aspirations as a director of football remain unblemished though and Bell, who also had spells at Dundee United, Hibs, Partick Thistle and Falkirk, is already looking for his next challenge.

He told Record Sport back in December how he had leaned on good friend Ross Wilson, sporting director at Rangers, to prepare himself for the role.
