Cameroon were hosts two years ago and finished third on home soil, losing to Egypt on penalties in the semi-finals before then coming out on top in a shootout when they beat Burkina Faso in the third-place play-off.

Guinea impressed in holding Senegal to a draw and reaching the knockout stages, and since 1998 have only once failed to make it out of their group when qualifying for the tournament.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Cameroon vs Guinea is scheduled for a 5pm GMT kick-off today, Monday, January 15, 2024.

The match will take place at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro.

Cameroon vs Guinea prediction

Cameroon have not been in particularly impressive form, drawing a warm-up match with Zambia and they were also held by Libya in a World Cup qualifier in November.

Guinea though will be full of confidence after a friendly win over Nigeria, and they look well capable of causing Cameroon problems in what could be a tight affair.

Draw, 1-1.

Cameroon vs Guinea team news

Cameroon are without Bryan Mbeumo, after the Brentford star had ankle surgery last month to rule him out of the tournament.

It remains to be seen whether goalkeeper Andre Onana is available, after it was decided he would play for Manchester United in Sunday's 2-2 draw with Tottenham and then immediately fly out just 24 hours before his country's opener.

Guinea have concerns over Serhou Guirassy's fitness, after the striker came off against Nigeria with a thigh issue. Those concerns have been downplayed, but he continues to be monitored.

Former Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita is expected to lead his country out.
