Cameron Young snubs big-money LIV Golf switch in huge boost for PGA Tour

Cameron Young has snubbed interest from the lucrative Saudi-backed LIV Golf series in order to stay on the PGA Tour.

The 25-year-old is currently ranked number 17 in the world and admitted he was "very interested" in joining LIV as they "have a bunch of good ideas and are doing some cool stuff". However, he ultimately chose to stick with the PGA Tour due to the new changes the tour have announced.

"Frankly, I have decided to stay," Young said. "So, I don't know, it’s a really difficult situation because it's not really anything anyone wanted to happen.

"I think it wasn't meant to be this hostile between the two. Frankly, throughout the whole process with [LIV], I was very interested. I think they have a bunch of good ideas and are doing some cool stuff.

"With some of the changes coming [to the PGA Tour], that's kind of what really helped me decide to kind of stay and pursue those goals that I have for myself like making a Presidents Cup team and a Ryder Cup team and winning a major when all of that is just uncertain if you go. It's a tough place for me because, you know, I'm very young and there are a lot of factors."

The PGA Tour recently announced major changes to the 2023 schedule, including the introduction of 12 elevated events with an average of £17 million on offer at each tournament.

The tour's elite group of players have also committed to playing at least 20 events on the calendar, commissioner Jay Monahan confirmed.

"Our top players are firmly behind the Tour, helping us deliver an unmatched product to our fans, who will be all but guaranteed to see the best players competing against each other in 20 events or more throughout the season," Monahan said.

"This is an extraordinary and unprecedented commitment, a testament to who these guys are and what they believe in. To now have our top players rally around this organization and commit to a portfolio of tournaments like never before, I think our fans, our partners, our players are going to love it. I promise you, there's more to come.
