Cameron Toll in Edinburgh is getting a huge new cinema complex

Edinburgh City Council has given a new cinema in the South of the city the green light after a landslide vote from councillors.

Part of the Cameron Toll car park is to be transformed into a huge new cinema complex after being approved today.

Empire Cinemas will build a ten-screen multiplex development as part of a larger extension of Cameron Toll Shopping Centre.

The new extension will also see a new restaurant being built alongside added retail space and a new doctor's surgery.

Edinburgh City Councillors backed the decision to build the cinema today (July 1) ten votes to one.

The multiplex development will mirror other parts of the city such as the Vue at Ocean Terminal and the Omni Centre and Odeon cinema at Fort Kinnaird.

The cinema development will be one of two Empire Cinema complexes in Scotland after Empire Clydebank in Glasgow.
