Cameron Jordan says it’s obvious Drew Brees is NFL’s best QB

New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan raised some eyebrows during an appearance on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” program, in which he spurned every other quarterback in the league to give teammate Drew Brees his due credit.

“Isn’t that obvious?” Jordan replied when asked whether Brees was the best quarterback in the NFL. “I mean year in and year out, he doesn’t get the MVP year in and year out, but eventually he’s due. Who has thrown more 5,000 yard seasons than Drew Brees?”

Jordan has a point, there — seven different quarterbacks have passed the 5,000 passing yards mark in a single season on 11 different occasions, but Brees owns five of those single-season accomplishments. No one else has done it multiple times.

“Who’s thrown more yards than Drew?” Jordan continued, turning his attention to the reigning league MVP, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. “We’re gonna talk about how Pat Mahomes took an already-playoff caliber team back to the playoffs, good job.”

Now there’s a hot take, and it might have some merit. Alex Smith led the Chiefs to the playoffs in three consecutive seasons from 2015 to 2017, and Mahomes kept the momentum going in 2018. But he came up short against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, who became Jordan’s next target.

“We’re gonna talk about Tom Brady who’s been winning Super Bowls (for years), but I want to see Tom without Bill Belichick. Show me something.”

Who can blame him? The Patriots haven’t been seriously challenged in the AFC for decades, whether it’s due to mismanagement within their division or a lack of quality quarterback play throughout the conference. Much like the NBA’s Golden State Warriors, their act has gotten stale.

It’s very clear that Jordan feels the disrespect Brees has received, especially with the Saints making deep playoff pushes in recent years. It’s a safe bet that he’ll keep that energy flowing when the regular season kicks off.
