Cameron Jordan reacts to Rams QB Jared Goff’s $134M extension

The Los Angeles Rams made a big investment late Tuesday evening, agreeing to terms on a four-year, $134 million contract extension with quarterback Jared Goff. It’s a $33.5 million per-year windfall for the former top overall draft pick, including an NFL-record $110 million in guarantees. Goff helped the Rams reach Super Bowl LIII, where he folded under pressure and completed just half of his throws, averaged just 6.0 yards per attempt, and failed to throw a touchdown pass in their 13-3 loss to the New England Patriots.

Many of Goff’s Rams teammates congratulated him on the new deal, but New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan came in with the jokes. Jordan and Goff share an Alma mater in the University of California, each standing out for the Golden Bears in their college careers. They’ve managed to cultivate an on-field friendship and rivalry in their games against one another. Jordan joking suggested Goff should hold out the first few games of the regular season, missing their Week 2 matchup in L.A., but he was happy to see his opponent earn a payday.

Goff’s Rams are 1-2 against the Saints in his career, falling short despite some solid individual performances from the young quarterback. He’s averaged 319.7 passing yards per outing while tossing 8 touchdown passes against just 3 interceptions, and getting sacked 7 times. He’s found NFL success by playing mistake-free football and crisply executing the playcalls. He’ll get a chance to tie up the series record against Jordan and the Saints soon enough.
