Cameron House evacuated as police investigate 'threatening message' sent to Loch Lomond hotel

Cameron House Hotel had to be evacuated after a 'threatening message'.

Police sent specialist officers to the Loch Lomond hotel at around 6pm last night after staff and guests were told to leave.

An investigation is underway and at this stage it's unclear the nature of the message, or how it was received.

The hotel recently housed world leaders and dignitaries during the COP26 summit in Glasgow. The Daily Record reports former US president Barack Obama stayed at Cameron House, according to bosses, with rumours Hollywood A-lister Leonardo DiCaprio had also checked in.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said that searches were conducted after the evacuation, but were 'negative for anything of concern'.

She said: "Officers are investigating following a threatening message received by a premises near Loch Lomond, Alexandria, on Monday, 15 November, 2021.

"These were negative for anything of concern and members of the public have been permitted access back to the premises. Enquiries remain ongoing."

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said they had attended a 'police incident'.

Cameron House has been contacted for comment.

Heads of state and former presidents were in Scotland over the past fortnight for the major conference- leading to a huge security operation by police forces across the UK.

Thousands demonstrated on the streets of Glasgow calling for action on climate change as the summit was held at the SEC arena on the banks of the River Clyde.

Hotel bosses had tweeted yesterday of their 'honour' in hosting leaders- citing former US President Obama as a guest.

A tweet read: "It was an honour to welcome world leaders to Cameron House during #COP26. Delighted to host @BarackObama who took in the stunning sights of Loch Lomond while discussing how we can all do more to save our planet."

Days before Christmas in 2017, tragedy struck when a fire broke out at the exclusive venue that killed Simon Midgley, 32, and his partner Richard Dyson, 38.

In January, Cameron House was fined £500,000 after pleading guilty to a string of fire safety failures and night porter Christopher O’Malley, 35, from Lennox Street in Renton, was sentenced to 300 hours of unpaid work for putting fireplace ash in a plastic bag and inside a cupboard which started the blaze.

The court heard the resort had been given two warnings by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service over the storing of flammable materials in the concierge cupboard near a source of ignition.
