Cameron Harper set for Celtic exit as New York Red Bulls offer American kid an MLS escape route

New York Red Bulls are set to sign Celtic youngster Cameron Harper on a pre-contract and will then try to do a deal to get him Stateside in this window.

The United States under-20 international, who made his debut against Hibs on Monday, had been stalling over a new contract for the last 12 months.

Harper had been concerned about a lack of a pathway to the Celtic first-team after failing to make an appearance since joining the Parkhead club in 2018.

And despite making his bow after a raft of coronavirus call-offs Harper is now set to return to his homeland in the hope that Major League Soccer can help him fulfil his dream of making the full US national team.

It is major blow for Celtic as Harper came through the Parkhead ranks and had been tipped for big things.

A pre-contract is set to be agreed with New York in the coming days and they will make a cash bid to try and get him in before the new MLS season kicks off.

The American window opens on February 10 a few weeks before the new season.
