Cameron Diaz explains why she's quit acting in brutally honest interview

Cameron Diaz has revealed why she stepped back from the limelight.

The blonde beauty and high-grossing actress decided to move away from her Tinsel Town lifestyle after determining to "take back" her life.

Cameron, 47, left the industry after 2014's Annie and has since focused her career energy into her growing fascination with wellness.

Now, chatting with Gwyneth Paltrow on her In Goop Health show, Cameron dished on why the acting game wasn't for her.

Asked what she felt after leaving that life behind her, Cameron explained: "A peace. A peace in my soul because I was finally taking care of myself.

"It's so intense to work at that level and be that public. There's a lot of energy coming at you at all times when you're really visible as an actor and doing press and putting yourself out there.

"I do get the overwhelming energy of the attention that's being put toward me."

The mum-of-one added: "I really looked at my life and I saw that...when you're making a movie, it's a perfect excuse, they own you.

"You're there 12 hours a day for months on end. You have no time for anything else.

"I realised that I'd handed off parts of my life to all these other people...and I had basically to take it back."

Cameron had a hugely successful career in Hollywood, starring in flicks like There's Something About Mary and Being John Malkovich.

She became a mum in December, welcoming baby daughter Raddix with hubby Benji Madden.

Being a new mum is proving busy work, Cameron says, and she hardly stops moving throughout the day.

Advising fans in April on what to do amid coronavirus, she said: "The best thing to do is to stay in at the moment, just take care.

"Until there's a vaccination we don't know anything."
