PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. — Cameron Champ announced on Wednesday night that he is withdrawing from the Genesis Invitational.
Champ, who was grouped with Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy for the first two days, wrote on Twitter that he is “disappointed” to pull out of the tournament.
There’s no indication that the withdrawal is due to an injury but rather that the “situation at our home in Houston remains my priority this week.”
Houston and Texas at large has been slammed by a fierce winter storm. According to USATODAY.com, more than 1.9 million homes and businesses in Texas remained without power Wednesday night, and some also lost water service.
Champ was born in Sacramento and played his college golf at Texas A&M in College Station, which is about 95 miles northwest of Houston, where he now lives.

The PGA Tour subsequently announced that Champ is being replaced in the field by Andrew Putnam.
Champ, who was the 2018 Charlie Sifford Memorial Exemption recipient at the Genesis, also wrote on Twitter: “I look forward to being back at Riv next year and to playing the WGC at Concession next week.”
The WGC was moved from Mexico City and will be played in Florida instead.
