The bizarre yellow card handed to Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers has been put down to a strange message sent to referees.
The centre-back was caught up in a clash with St Johnstone striker Chris Kane during the Parkhead side's 2-0 Premiership win on Saturday.
Kane appeared to take a kick at the on-loan Tottenham centre-back as he lay over the ball, after which a "melee" involving several players ensued.
Hands were raised in the ensuing tussle and after the incident, but none by Carter-Vickers.
However, in the end referee Nick Walsh opted to book both the Celtic defender and the Perth Saints frontman.
While many pundits had suggested that Kane could have been shown a red card for the kick-out, many were left scratching their heads over why the Tottenham loanee was pulled up by Walsh.
The following pushing and shoving seems to be the reason.
A report from Clyde 1 SSB claims that when a number of players get involved in shoving, referees have been told by the governing body to book a player from each team.
Pundit Mark Wilson insisted it should have been a red to Kane, adding: "It's a bit of a swipe, and I think he knows he's not getting the ball."
Former Rangers midfielder Alex Rae also stuck up for the America cap, adding:: "I don't know what Carter-Vickers did wrong there.
"It could only have been for dissent, because he didn't do a lot wrong."
