Cameron Carter Vickers Celtic exit would see tears shed as USA legend fires 'next step' warning at Parkhead stopper

USA national team legend Eric Wynalda admits it will be tough for Cameron Carter-Vickers to leave Celtic after finally finding a home at Parkhead - but told the Hoops legions they will have to dry their eyes if he does leave.

The American has been a standout since joining from Spurs with his initial Celtic loan his seventh stint away from the north London outfit before he signed a permanent deal reported to be worth around £6 million.

Carter-Vickers, who featured at the World Cup in Qatar for the USA, is a key player for Ange Postecoglou and Wynalda - capped more than 100 times - who is now a respected pundit across the Big Pond told The Action Network podcast: “Watching Cameron this year, and last for that matter, has been amazing. His performances have earned him the captains band as well as multiple man of the match awards and team of the week selections.

"At 25 years old the question really is where would be the next step for his career. Celtic is a massive club and for a guy who has finally found a home after multiple loan stints, it might be very hard for him leave at this point. He is truly loved at Celtic and the mainstay of the defensive line.

"If he leaves, there will be tears. The supporters will not want to lose him but will have to understand. Cameron will need to make sure he is not put into another situation like Spurs however. The club never committed to him. He needs a club that wants him as much as Celtic but would be the appropriate step up in level to impress the new US manager. Tough situation "
