Cameras naturally focused on Bill Belichick’s reaction after Mac Jones overthrew a pass

Former Alabama quarterback Mac Jones participated in his pro day on Tuesday in Tuscaloosa as his stock continues to rise among this current quarterback class — especially after the 49ers’ trade into the No. 3 slot.

Tuesday’s session, in particular, was important for Jones as Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan were among the NFL reps in attendance.

But if the Patriots are going to try to make a run at Jones, the Alabama quarterback probably will have to make a better impression than what he did on Tuesday. In fact, cameras appeared to catch Belichick’s disappointment in real time.

The pro day broadcast showed Jones toss an overthrow on a deep ball, and immediately after the ball hit the turf, the cameras panned to Belichick (with Patriots OC Josh McDaniels) shaking his head.

On a separate overthrow, the cameras panned to Shanahan who looked terrified.

To be fair to Jones, it’s just a couple throws at a pro day. It takes a lot more than that to drive an NFL team’s decision making. But he’d obviously prefer not to see Belichick shaking his head after his throws.

That can’t be great.
