Camera crews in Merseyside town 'filming new detective drama'

ITV may have solved the mystery of why film crews were seen in a Merseyside town.

Camera crews were seen on Lord Street in Southport earlier this week, leading people to speculate as to what they had been filming.

ITV confirmed it has had crews in the North West shooting new detective drama Ridley.

The drama, with Line of Duty star Adrian Dunbar fronting the show, has been shooting across Lancashire over the last week, with ITV staff saying crews may have taken a detour to Merseyside in the process.

From the writer of TV drama Vera, the show is about a retired detective who resumes his partnership with his former protégée, DI Carol Farman, played by Bronagh Waugh (Unforgotten, The Fall), to solve crimes.

Dunbar said the filming has got off to a great start: "Ridley has begun shooting and we really couldn’t be off to a better start. Despite the wintry weather, everything from cast and crew right down to the catering is excellent.

"Bronagh Waugh has stepped into her character’s shoes seamlessly and we have been joined by some great actors with more to come.”

Merseyside is currently centre stage in another TV crime drama.

The release of The Responder has seen people frantically taking to social media to talk about the new hit BBC drama starring Martin Freeman, although not all comments have been good.

People also hit out at Alan Sugar following his nonsensical comment about the Liverpool accent that quickly prompted a flood of people criticising businessman and TV regular.
