Camelphat perform at empty Printworks to pay tribute to struggling nightclubs

Camelphat have recorded a live mix in front of an empty Printworks to pay tribute to all the clubs still closed due to the pandemic.

The DJ and producer duo played a two-hour set at the Canada Water venue, whose main room used to welcome up to 4,000 revellers, but which has remained off-limits since lockdown began in March.

The mix will go live on BBC Radio 1’s iPlayer channel at 6pm on Friday October 9. It will come as part of the launch of Radio 1 dance, a new 24-hour stream on BBC Sounds.

The performance comes amid rising concerns within the clubbing community that late-night venues are being left behind by the Government’s Covid-19 strategy.

The 10pm curfew effectively prohibits the reopening of most clubs, with many venues unable to practise social distancing anyway due to physical and financial constraints.

Distribution of the Culture Recovery Fund, which aims to provide funding to music venues during the pandemic, was delayed earlier this week, and will now arrive on October 12.
