Camelphat DJ Mike Di Scala has opened his own pizzeria in Liverpool and customers are already labelling it a “lovely Italian gem”.
Tucked away among a parade of shops on Deyes Lane in Maghull, the pizzeria has been impressing customers since March 2019.
Serving up authentic Neapolitan dishes in wood fired ovens courtesy of Mike’s mum Anna Di Scala, who trained as a pizzaiola chef in Naples, the restaurant is already among the best restaurants in Maghull according to TripAdvisor.
The menu features authentic Italian dishes, including an array of classic pizzas, antipasto, desserts and an extensive drinks menu.
Alongside the classic margherita and marinara, the restaurant also serves the Di Scala pizza which comes with San Marzano tomatoes, Fior Di Latte parmesan, mixed peppers, kalamata olives, capers, Fior Di Latte mozzarella, basil and olive oil.
Mike said: "The Italian Restaurant business has always been in the Di Scala family starting with our grand father Pasquale Di Scala. He came to Liverpool in the early 60s and opened various restaurants in and around the city.
"It is in our blood, he sadly passed away nearly five years ago and we had to keep the fire burning.
"The reason we chose Maghull is Anna, our mother and chef, grew up and went to school there, it was a nostalgic move.
"The response we have had has been over whelming the TripAdvisor and Facebook reviews speak for themselves, everyone is saying it’s authentic for a Neapolitan pizzeria which makes sense as Anna trained in Naples, Italy and is a certified pizzeiola.
"We also have a lot of Italian families dining regularly saying it’s just like "mama used to make'".
Di Scala already has a five star rating on TripAdvisor, and one reviewer has claimed the restaurant makes the “best pizza in England”.
Others have praised the atmosphere and service, as well as several dishes on the menu including the meatballs and meat platter.
Some reviewers have even asked if the restaurant will ever do food to take away.
