A man has been hailed a hero after single handedly attempting to put out a bus fire in Camden.
Footage of the incident showed the man, armed only with a household fire extinguisher, desperately trying to dampen the flames in West Hampstead.
Witnesses said they heard a “loud bang” as flames erupted from the route 113 outside Finchley and Frognal station.
No one was hurt in the incident and the bus driver and passengers were able to evacuate safely. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
A witness told the Evening Standard: “He wasn’t wearing a mask or anything like that, he just ran out and did what he could.
“He is a hero. At one point he was so close to the flames, people were shouting at him to get back.”
A fire brigade spokesman said firefighters arrived on the scene at 7.25pm and the fire was extinguished within 10 minutes.
A Transport for London spokesperson said: “There were no injuries sustained by the passengers or driver and investigations as to the cause of the incident are under way."
