A Cambuslang singer songwriter, who has graced the stage at the town’s festive lights switch-on for four consecutive years, is seeking to bring some seasonal cheer to locals by releasing his new Christmas single.
Toby Erskine, who performs as Missing Focus, has released Christmas in Lockdown, in the hope of putting smiles on faces at the end of a year like no other.
Toby, 30, of Westburn has been writing songs and performing live since the age of 16.
Despite his act being likened those of other solo artists, including Ed Sheeran and Lewis Capaldi, Toby modestly describes himself as “just one man and his guitar”.
And in a bid to spread good cheer at the end of a difficult year, his new Christmas single includes the lyrics: “Don’t let this lockdown get you down when there is Christmas all around”.
Tattoo artist Toby, who opened a new studio in Westburn in October, told the Reformer about the thinking behind his new song. He explained: “This Christmas isn’t like the ones we normally have, so the single is all about spreading a more positive message and a bit of cheer.”
Toby, who previously worked from a tattoo studio in the premises of a hair salon on Main Street, Cambuslang, says that because his business had to remain closed during lockdown and the recent three weeks of enforced restrictions, he has been writing more music than ever before.
“Family is the most important thing to me, and I’m sure a lot of people will feel the same, this year in particular,” he said.
“The single tries to spread a bit of festive cheer at a time when we need it most.”
