Cambuslang schoolboy fronts Scotland Euro 2020 giveaway at St Enoch Centre

A Cambuslang youngster is the face of a Scotland Euro 2020-inspired giveaway by Glasgow's St Enoch Centre.

Eleven-year-old Jamie McCarthy has been chosen as the 'poster boy' for a drive by the city's shopping mall to inspire the next generation of Scotland heroes.

The St. Enoch Centre is showing its support for Scotland’s national team by giving away footballs if Scotland beat Czech Republic in Monday's opening game - and goalie gloves if they lose.

If Scotland win the game St. Enoch Centre will give away 50 Euro footballs to encourage more striking practice.

However, if Scotland lose, 50 pairs of junior goalie gloves will be given away on Tuesday following the game at Hampden, which is one of the Euro 2020 host cities.

If it is a draw, then 25 balls and 25 goalie gloves will be available to the first 50 shoppers to the customer services desk.

It's Scotland's first appearance at a major tournament in 23 years and being involved in the St Enoch campaign has certainly ramped up the excitement levels for West Coats Primary School pupil Jamie, who is pro-youth at the Queen's Park academy where Scotland skipper Andy Robertson started his career.

His proud dad David told Lanarkshire Live Sport : "Jamie was delighted to be asked to appear in the campaign and loved every minute of it.

"He's hoping that St Enoch's are giving away far more footballs than goalie gloves, as that will mean Scotland will have beaten the Czechs!

"His favourite player is Andy Robertson and he'd love to follow in his footsteps - but this was the next best thing right now for a football-mad 11 year old."

The giveaway prizes will be available from 9am on Tuesday, June 15 to the first 50 customers to the customer services desk on the first floor of St. Enoch Centre. Terms and conditions apply.

Anne Ledgerwood, centre director for St. Enoch Centre, said: “The team at St. Enoch Centre want to back Scotland all the way as they head into their first major tournament in 23 years, and what better way than helping the next generation who dream of playing for their country one day."
