Cambuslang residents facing more traffic misery

Motorists in Cambuslang face another three weeks of traffic misery after roadworks – initially scheduled to take a month – were extended.

The project to upgrade pipework on Greenlees Road got underway on August 24.

On Monday, Scottish Water announced that the £85,000 essential work has been extended “due to unforeseen circumstances.”

The work is being carried out by Scottish Water’s contractor, Clancy Docwra.

It is anticipated that Greenlees Road will remain closed between Brownside Road and Stewarton Drive for a further three weeks, with road users asked to follow local diversions.

Temporary traffic lights remain in place at the junction of Greenlees Road and Vicarland Road to allow access to a local nursery and the Kirkhill train station car park.

The extension to the temporary road traffic management has been agreed in liaison with South Lanarkshire Council.

Ruaridh MacGregor, Scottish Water’s corporate affairs regional manager, explained: “This upgrade work to our water infrastructure in Cambuslang will ensure our customers can continue to enjoy clear, fresh drinking water.

“We would like to thank the local community in advance for all of their patience and understanding while this essential improvement work is undertaken.

“To ensure the safety of our workers on the project and of local communities, work will be carried out in line with the latest Scottish government guidance during the coronavirus pandemic.”
