Cambuslang Rangers target leapfrog win over Ardeer to top league

Cambuslang Rangers can hit the summit of the West of Scotland League Conference B table if they return from Ardeer Thistle with a win tonight (Wednesday).

But co-boss Billy Campbell says they will need to be on the top of their game against a powerful side.

The Jags currently lead the way and sit two points above third-placed ’Lang, though the leaders have played a game more.

But Campbell’s side go into the clash with confidence, having beat Dalry Thistle 4-0 on Saturday, and Thorniewood 5-0 in Viewpark on Wednesday.

Campbell said: “We’ve done well in the last couple of games. We played really well for the full game over at Thorniewood, played some nice stuff.

“On Saturday in the first half we didn’t play up to the standard, but credit to Dalry, they were working hard to shut us down and stop us playing.

“We had a wee chat at half-time about how we play, and the structure of what we do going forward, and we managed to pull through.

“The boys played really well in the second half, so we got the result.

“For me, whether you win 1-0 or 21-0, it’s all the same – you want to be playing well and being positive in the way we conduct ourselves.

“Thankfully we came away with the result, so all is good.”

It’s been a fine start for Camby with five wins and just one defeat, but Campbell knows they now face their toughest test yet.

He added: “There’s a wee challenge there as at Ardeer on Wednesday. We were sent a link for their game on Saturday against Ashfield, and their manager was saying a similar thing to us, they hadn’t played to their best, but they still got the result [a 1-1 draw].

“It’s the old adage, where you need to take every game at a time, you just don’t know if you’re going to turn up, what changes you’re going to need to make, what you’re going to need to do on the day to affect things.

“We’ve started off well, we’re relatively happy with what we’ve done so far, and the guys are working hard, so you can’t ask for much more than that.

“If we turn up on the day and we do the best we can, that’s all we can ask.

“Paul McColl and I don’t put any other pressure on any of the players, just to do the job to the best of their abilities. If you turn up and we compete we shouldn’t be too far away, but that’s the challenge.”

Rangers host Renfrew on Saturday.
