Cambuslang Rangers striker Scott Williamson club's finest since legend Thomas Kilmartin, says co-boss

Cambuslang Rangers co-boss Billy Campbell insists goal machine Scott Williamson is the finest striker the club has seen since Lang legend Thomas ‘Deco’ Kilmartin.

Frontman Williamson took his season’s tally to 31 goals in 17 appearances for Camby on Saturday with a hat-trick in their 8-0 annihilation of Carluke Rovers in West of Scotland League Conference B.

The 20-year-old, from Fernhill, has passed the 30-goal mark at the halfway point in the season and Campbell has compared his prowess to that of Kilmartin, who bagged 102 goals in 169 starts over two spells at Somervell Park during the 2010s.

He said: “The only player that’s had an impact like that is Thomas Kilmartin, who Alan Wardlaw and I brought in from the amateurs a good few years back.

“When we brought him in, he’d scored in excess of 90 goals for County Thistle and he slotted straight into the team and scored a lot of goals for us.

“And Scott is as natural a goalscorer as I’ve seen.

“Thomas’ record was fantastic at the club and I don’t think I’ve seen a player as good since, but Scott is delivering like that for us now week in, week out.

“You can’t ask for any more.”

Not only has Williamson scored goals for fun, he has provided seven assists to help Lang to the summit of Conference B.

“It’s phenomenal,” Campbell added. “But his feet are very much on the ground. He went two or three games and didn’t score, so he just keeps working hard, getting himself into good positions and helping the team.

“We don’t put any pressure on him to score, we just tell him to enjoy his football and he’s done that.”

Williamson will be looking to add to his tally when Camby host Lochmaben in round two of the South Challenge Cup on Saturday.
