Cambuslang Rangers star breaks 48-year-old record and earns 'magnificent' praise

Cambusang Rangers goalkeeper Andy Wilson on Saturday shattered a 48-year-old record by keeping consecutive clean sheets for eight games.

The previous record, set back in 1973, was broken when the wee Rangers ran out 2-0 winners at Dalry Thistle in the West of Scotland League Conference B.

There was another milestone reached in that game as well, with Camby netting their 99th goal of the season, conceding just 15 in the process.

Goals from Scott Williamson and Jay Nelson sent them on their way to another win, stretching their lead at the top of the table to seven points, and co-boss Billy Campbell was delighted with his lot.

He said: “We’ve managed to break the all-time record at Cambuslang of consecutive games without conceding, and that’s since 1973 that the record was set.

“We’ve managed to surpass that, which is a great feat for the whole team.

“You mention our goalkeeper, Andy Wilson and the defence, because they have been magnificent, but from the whole team it’s another wee plus-point for the day.

“We were keen to try and keep Dalry out and make sure we didn’t concede, which the guys delivered, so we’re very pleased with that overall.

“It gives the team another wee added drive as well. We’re playing well and creating chances, but we don’t care if it’s 1-0 or 21-0, we just want to win.”
