Cambuslang Rangers injury blow as star suffers fractured cheekbone

Cambuslang Rangers co-boss Billy Campbell has revealed club captain Scott Anson is expected to be ruled out for a number of weeks with a fractured cheekbone.

The Somervell Park star suffered a blow to the face during their 1-0 win away to Hurlford United on November 5, but bravely played on to help his side see out a vital victory in their bid to beat the drop in the West of Scotland League Premier Division.

It has since been discovered that the 33-year-old striker suffered a fracture and the club are looking into the option of a protective face mask to help the player return to action sooner rather than later.

Campbell said: “Scott is a bit of a concern following that sore one he took in the game against Hurlford.

“We’ll need to see how long he will be out for with his recuperation and recovery.

“He took a bad bump and it is a big loss with our captain being out, but we’ll need to just try and progress without him in the ranks for the time being.

“He has fractured his cheekbone and we are possibly seeing if we can get one of these masks made so he can play.

“He has an appointment this week and we’ll see what the prognosis is there with regards to how quickly he can be back in.

“We will, of course, be directed by the doctors and specialists but it is a wee bit of a concern for him and us.”

Camby will need to do without their skipper on Saturday when they face Newton Stewart in the third round of the South Challenge Cup.

Kick-off at Somervell Park is 1.30pm.
