Cambuslang Rangers 'crucified' by league chiefs, says co-boss Billy Campbell

Cambuslang Rangers co-boss Billy Campbell says they’ve been “crucified” by the Scottish FA's decision to uphold a three-point deduction for fielding an ineligible player.

Campbell says it’s “soul-destroying” to beat teams like Hurlford United in their debut season in the Premier League, only to find themselves second-bottom of the table due to what he insists was an oversight.

Striker Kyle Maxwell was fielded in error during a 3-1 defeat to Beith in the opening game of the season on July 30.

Camby appealed against the decision – which also involves a fine – but they discovered over the weekend that it had been thrown out.

Campbell said: “There was a bit of a problem with Kyle Maxwell and that has really crucified us, after all the hard work we’ve put in.

“I absolutely don’t think we deserved that, but the league are standing by their rules.

“The guys went and tried to explain why we couldn’t see it on the system, but they’ve taken three points off us, which we can pretty ill-afford.

“It’s disappointing, because it’s hard enough.

“It was a game early in the season, it was a huge debate. You couldn’t see it on the website, it was somewhere else and you had to go and find it, so there wasn’t a huge amount of clarity.

“But they’ve taken three points off of us, it has left us second-bottom, meaning we go away and beat Hurlford and it means nothing.

“It’s a wee bit soul-destroying, but that’s their rules and we just need to go with it.”
