Cambuslang Rangers co-boss says heart-to-heart got his side winning again

Cambuslang Rangers co-boss Billy Campbell says a heart-to-heart with the players has resulted in back-to-back wins in the West of Scotland League Premier Division.

Gers started their campaign with a 3-2 defeat against St Cadoc’s, but thumped Glasgow United 5-1 on Wednesday and beat Ashfield 2-0 at home on Saturday.

Campbell says competition in the division is so fierce that his side must be on top of their game all the time.

He said: “We had a chat with the boys, because you’re conscious that you don’t want to start with two or three losses.

“It puts you under pressure – not from the club, but from the perspective that you don’t want to be chasing it.

“We had a wee chat on Monday about what we’re trying to achieve, and on Wednesday we played really well.

“The boys turned up, we started at a decent tempo, and came in 4-0 up at half-time, which gave us a chance to give the younger guys a wee kick of the ball and give them some match-time.

“I think we deserved the win, and the same on Wednesday. We did enough to merit it.”

Campbell says it’s cliché, but they’ll take it game by game in the top flight.

“Every team in this league are capable of beating each other, so you need to make sure you’re turning up.

“If you don’t turn up on the day you’ll get beat, there’s no doubt about it.

“On our day, if we turn up and play to our capabilities, we won’t be far away.

“I’m not going to say we’ll be winning this, or winning that, but on our day the players and the qualities we’ve got mean we won’t be far away from a result.”
