They may already have a title wrapped up and topped it off with a seven-goal haul - but Cambuslang Rangers co-boss Billy Campbell wants his side to remain professional in their league finale.
It’s been a terrific campaign for the Somervell Park club and they will get their hands on the West of Scotland Football League Conference B trophy this Saturday against Thorniewood United.
There was an element of frustration for the Camby boss during Saturday’s match with Greenock, as 10 goals were shared during a 7-3 home win.
John Gemmell and Jack McClarty grabbed braces while Scott Anson, Gary Giffin and Gordon Dick efforts capped off a fine day on the attacking front for Cambuslang.
Greenock did pull goals back though through Robert Clunie, James Marks and Craig Brown.
Campbell said of the win: “We are really pleased with the victory, but conceding the three goals took the shine off it for us a wee bit. Credit to Greenock, they had five young lads in and they worked for everything.
“They never gave anything up and thoroughly deserved their goals. We were a bit disappointed with how we lost our goals but we didn’t want to be overly-critical of the players.
“They just scored seven goals and could, perhaps should, have scored more. We absolutely take it and we now only have this one game to go against Thorniewood.
“We have a couple games including a cup game against Wishaw so we will need to see when our season finishes. But for now, our heads are focused on this game with Thorniewood.”
While celebrations over a good season will no doubt come, Campbell says his men have to focus on making sure a good performance is turned in before their ascent to tier one football.
Camby’s consistency has been a big factor in their title and promotion bid, with some younger players now set for a run-out with the main task done.
The co-manager added: “It’s no mean feat to go and win a division, especially a division like we are in just now with the teams around us. But overall, we have had consistency and that has shown.
“The players were desperate to get it over the line and I’m fortunate to have been there before. It’s not as easy as people think. It’s a tough task to get that final point or two.
“We are pleased to have been able to seal it against Gartcairn and then pick up the three points against Greenock. We should hopefully be getting the trophy after it.
“The focus will be on getting the game done and staying professional. We still need to get the last game done.”
