Motorists in Cambuslang face four weeks of traffic misery, as work gets underway on water pipework renewals.
Scottish Water will begin essential work to upgrade its water network infrastructure in Cambuslang on Monday.
The work, which will involve around £85,000 worth of upgrades to pipework on Greenlees Road, will be carried out by Scottish Water’s contractor, Clancy Docwra, and is expected to take approximately four weeks for completion.
During that time roads will have to be closed and temporary road traffic management has been agreed in liaison with South Lanarkshire Council to enable the work to take place.
Greenlees Road will be closed between Brownside Road and Stewarton Drive for around four weeks. Road users will be asked to follow local diversions during that time.
Temporary traffic lights will be in place at the junction of Greenlees Road and Vicarland Road to allow access to a local nursery and to the car park at Kirkhill train station.
Ruaridh MacGregor, Scottish Water’s corporate affairs regional manager, explained: “This upgrade work to our water infrastructure in Cambuslang will ensure our customers can continue to enjoy clear, fresh drinking water.”
He added: “We would like to thank the local community in advance for all of their patience and understanding while this essential improvement work is undertaken.”
To ensure the safety of workers on the project and of and local communities, the work will be carried out in line with the latest Scottish government guidance during the coronavirus pandemic.
