Cambuslang kebab shop 'first in Scotland' to use robotic meat cutting machine

A kebab shop in Cambuslang is celebrating as they have been innovators of new cutting-edge donor kebab machine. Customers of the fast food shop will be treated to £1 doners for a day to celebrate its latest vanguard investment.

The award-winning, Asian Tandoori which is located on Main Street is the first in Scotland to serve up their fresh doner meat using a robotic kebab cutting machine.

The state-of-the-art technology, hand-delivered to the Lanarkshire shop directly from Istanbul, cuts up to 40 kilos of doner meat in three hours compared to eight hours by hand.

Manager of Asian Tandoori, Adam Ahmed, told Lanarkshire Live: "We're the first shop in Scotland with this machine.

"The machine we had before was operated through manual labour, this is a robotic machine so you don't have to do anything. You don't have to cut it, you don't have to cook it, it does everything for you at the press of a button.

"On a Saturday night we were putting on a 40 kilo doner. It would take us about eight hours to cut that doner at full speed and we would struggle to keep up due to the demand.

"It's a piece of engineering so it's very precise. The cuts are extremely thin, you can thicken it or cut it rapid speed.

"We've been here a long time and I'm very passionate about my work. I love looking after the community and people love the secret recipe we have. With this new machine we can go next level and offer more deals and specials and cater for a lot more people."

The takeaway offers a wide selection of Indian curries, burgers, pizzas and kebabs.

And from 4.30pm next Wednesday, March 15 they will be selling doner kebabs to the local community for just £1 to celebrate their recent investment.

Owner Jameel Ahmed Khan added: "We're the first kebab takeaway in Scotland who is doing this. It's the biggest investment I've done in my life and will just make our lives a lot easier.

"The reason behind it is that all the years I've been in the hospitality industry, it's just getting harder and harder to find staff and manage them.

"When you have a machine doing the cutting it will be consistent and perfect each time, and you'll get more out of the kebab."

John Bachtler, chair of Cambuslang Community Council, hailed Asian Tandoori as a "great asset" to Cambuslang.

He said: "Jameel, Adam and all the staff are always really friendly and supportive of community causes.

"We are delighted that they are leading the way in Scotland with new cutting edge technology and celebrating the event with a great promotion of £1 kebabs. We're certain it will be popular and there will be huge takeup - we will certainly be joining the queue!"
