Cambuslang Harriers runners set new personal bests at various events

Cambuslang Harriers athletes have performed well in various competitions in Manchester, Istanbul, Reading, Motherwell, Dunkeld and Grangemouth, on road, hill and track.

Fraser Stewart made a spectacular marathon debut at Manchester, winning the open race held in conjunction with the elite event, and recording 2.18.40, the second-fastest time by a Scottish athlete this year.

M40 Kenny Finlayson took two minutes and 46 seconds off his PB, missing out on breaking the three-hours barrier by 59 seconds.

Julie Reid took four-and-a-half minutes off of her PB to record 3.38.13.

Meanwhile, honorary member Moira Stewart set a Czech Republic Half Marathon record of 70.14 in the Istanbul event, which was part of the World Athletics Label Road Series.

Stewart’s time puts her second to Olympian Eilish McColgan in the Scottish rankings for this year, and sixth in the UK.

Gordon Robertson performed well at the Scottish and West District 10-mile Road Championships at Strathclyde Park (Bobby Gavin)

While born in the Czech Republic, Moira is able to represent Cambuslang Harriers on account of her dad Eddie, who has been a club member for 40 years.

The Scottish and West District 10-Mile Road Championships held around Strathclyde Park was a rewarding day for the club.

Gordon Robertson and Stevie Wylie collected Scottish individual gold in their respective M40 and M50 categories.

Mike Christoforou lifted senior silver, and Erica Christie also enjoyed success, winning W60 bronze.

Christoforou, Andrew Carey and Gordon’s combined efforts earned them Scottish team silver, while Wylie is the only athlete in the event’s 58 years to have won both the senior and M50 trophies.

Chris Upson and Dave Thom were second M50 and third M60 in the medal awards.

Dave Thom, Iain Crawford, Erica Christie and Paula McCabe also did well in the race.

In the accompanying 6k open race, Mark Gallagher took the honours as the first M40 over the line, with new member Georgia Freeman-Mills being fourth lady.

Kieran Cooper won a Parkrun event en route to Dunkeld for the Birnam Hill Race, where he finished third behind Andrew Douglas.

Lewis Roddis lowered his 800m PB by over five seconds to post 2.04.04, which sets him up well for the track season ahead.
