Cambuslang fire - fire crews battle substation blaze as hundreds of Glasgow homes experience power cut

Hundreds of Glasgow homes have been left without power after a substation caught fire in Cambuslang.

Fire crews are currently at the scene near the India Palms restaurant, just off Glasgow Road, as they tackle the flames.

Meanwhile SP Energy Networks confirmed they have been made aware of power cuts in the G72 and G73 postcode areas.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed to Glasgow Live they are in attendance at the scene - where there is black smoke seen pouring from the substation - after being called out to the blaze at 6.36pm.

Meanwhile, SP Energy Networks advised over Twitter: "We are aware of a POWERCUT in G72 G73 Cambuslang Rutherglen. Our engineers are working to restore supplies. Sorry for the inconvenience."

At this stage it remains unclear as to what started the fire or if anyone has been injured as a result.
