ScottishPower Energy Networks are offering a £5000 reward in a bid to catch vandals who deliberately set fire to a sub station in Cambuslang .

Around 2500 homes and businesses were left without power following the blaze at the Burn Terrace, Cambuslang, just after 6.30pm yesterday.

The substation was completely destroyed causing £50,000 worth of damage.

ScottishPower Energy Networks are now offering a £5000 reward for information leading to arrest and conviction of those responsible.

Guy Jefferson, Customer Service Director, SP Energy Networks: “This was an extremely dangerous act and whoever was behind this vandalism clearly doesn't care about the consequences.

"The location of the fire is in a residential area and close to a number of homes.

"Given the time of day this incident happened, there could also have been children playing nearby. Its beggars belief that anyone could risk the lives of local people in this way.

"We will work closely with the police to help catch those behind this reckless fire and are offering a reward of £5000 to anyone who provides information which eventually leads to the arrest and conviction of any of those responsible.”

Anyone with information on those responsible for the fire can contact SP Energy Networks on 0800 092 9290.
