Cambuslang family are left stuck in Florida after Thomas Cook collapse

Holidaymakers from Cambuslang contacted the Reformer after being left high and dry at Orlando Airport in Florida .

The replacement plane provided wasn’t big enough to accommodate all the stranded passengers.

Christina Paul was meant to fly home from the Sunshine State on Monday but her flight was cancelled because of Thomas Cook’s collapse. The family group was told the Civil Aviation Authority had arranged a separate flight but that fell through as well, forcing the party of six to fork out for an overnight hotel stay.

As the Reformer went to press, the family was still waiting to find out when they would be coming home.

Christina said: “We were told the new flight details but when we arrived there were not enough seats left on the plane.

“We’ve ended up having to find a hotel and pay for it ourselves so we could stay somewhere overnight.

“My first call to CAA was at 3pm American time yesterday.

“They took details and told me someone would call back but no one has. I contacted them again at 8pm and had to give all my details once more and was told my inquiry had been escalated and someone would call.

“It’s the lack of information that’s poor. If we knew more, we could budget and organise things.

“I totally get people have lost jobs but innocent people are being hurt too.”
