Two men have died and seven people have been seriously injured after a double decker bus and a lorry crashed in Cambridgeshire.
Emergency crews were called to the A47 in Wisbech around 7.30am on Tuesday.
Sixteen patients were transferred to hospital following the collision at Thorney Road in Guyhirn, the East of England Ambulance Service said.
The two men were passengers on the bus at the time of the collision, Cambridgeshire Police said. Seven others were seriously injured and 11 people have minor injuries, the force spokesman added.
The dead men were from Northamptonshire and Norfolk, Inspector Jamie Langwith, of Cambridgeshire Police, said.
Speaking of those injured, he said: "We've got injuries consisting of broken legs up until brain injuries.
"There are no life-threatening injuries at this stage but they are serious."
He confirmed the bus driver was among those hurt, and said the lorry driver had escaped injury.
In a tweet the Magpas Air Ambulance charity said: “Magpas-Charity enhanced doctor & paramedic team were called to a major incident on the A47 in the Wisbech area, involving an HGV & a bus.
"Approximately 15 people have been injured. All emergency services are on the scene. More info to come.”
East of England Ambulance Service said it had sent seven ambulance crews, three ambulance officers, two rapid response vehicles, and a Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) to the scene.
They said the crash was initially declared as a major incident because of the number of patients involved, but was stood down shortly before 10am.
Cambridgeshire Fire Service said crews were called at 7.33am.
Cambridgeshire Police said they were appealing for witnesses.
James Palmer, the mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, said his "thoughts were with all those involved" in the crash.
He said an "important appeal for witnesses [had been] launched".
