Cambridge United 'did a job' on Bolton Wanderers says ex-Chelsea and Ipswich Town striker

Cambridge United 'did a job' on Bolton Wanderers as Ian Evatt's side slipped to their first defeat of the season.

That's the view of former Chelsea and Ipswich Town striker Sam Parkin.

Wanderers fell behind in a disappointing first half at the Abbey Stadium yesterday thanks to a strike from Shilow Tracey, which proved to be the winning goal in a 1-0 defeat for Evatt's side.

Bolton rallied and improved after the break but could not find the equaliser, with Dapo Afolayan coming the closest and drawing Dimitar Mitov into a good save and Josh Sheehan hit the post as they lost an encounter they had 74 per cent possession in.

It was the first loss of the League One campaign for Wanderers and result leaves them 13th in the table after the day's action, but are still only four points from top spot in the early stage of the season, while Cambridge are now up to tenth.

Speaking as a pundit on the EFL highlights show on Quest, former Chelsea and Ispwich striker Parkin believes Bolton are a 'terrific side' - but that Bonner's outfit 'did a job' on them on the day.

He said: "They're a terrific side, Bolton, and Mark Bonner was full of compliments for them tonight but did a job on them.

"Like Morecambe (vs Sheffield Wednesday), they were so compact on the ball, they don't try and be anything that they're not, Shilow Tracey gets the goal, that's two home wins on the spin, they haven't conceded.

"The two centre halves as you would expect, Lloyd Jones and Conor Masterson who has just joined from QPR, were absolutely superb at the back for them today."
