Cambridge Analytica suspends CEO pending investigation

The board of Cambridge Analytica has suspended chief executive Alexander Nix with immediate effect, pending an independent investigation.

The political research firm is accused of mining the data of 50 million Facebook users around the world, and using it to target people with political advertising aimed at helping Donald Trump's 2016 US election campaign.

In a statement, Cambridge Analytica said the findings of the investigation would be shared publicly in due course.

"In the view of the board, Mr Nix's recent comments secretly recorded by Channel 4 and other allegations do not represent the values or operations of the firm and his suspension reflects the seriousness with which we view this violation," the statement read.

More to come.
