Cambodia hands cheque-bouncer over to Thai police

Cambodian authorities handed a Thai woman fleeing arrest warrants for fraud charges over to Thai police at a border checkpoint on Tuesday.

Poipet immigration chief Pol Maj Gen Sim Sam Ath passed custody of Sirinthorn Santikrissanalert over to Sa Kaeo and Nakhon Pathom police at Khlong Luek checkpoint in Aranyaprathet district.

The woman was arrested in Phnom Penh on Monday, Thairath Online reported.

Cambodian police authorities informed their Thai counterparts of her capture and set Tuesday as the delivery date.

Mrs Sirinthorn, 47, is on the wanted list of Nakhon Pathom police, who have seven warrants for her arrest for allegedly bouncing seven cheques written for a total of 70 million baht.

The warrants were approved by the Nakhon Pathom court in 2015 after complaints were filed with police in the central province by a company which has not been identified.

Investigators at Nakhon Pathom police station contacted Cambodian authorities through the Thai embassy in Phnom Pehn after learning the suspect had fled to Cambodia.

Sa Kaeo immigration chief Pol Col Benjaphol Rodsawas and Pol Lt Col Kanphong Kositsuriyamanee of Nakhon Pathom police jointly questioned Mrs Sirinthorn. She was then taken by Nakhon Pathom police for legal processing.

Mrs Sirinthorn bears another first name, Jiratha, and another last name, Putthiwanthada.
