Cam Newton was among NFL’s elites in play action passer rating for 2018

The Carolina Panthers struggled to pull together wins in 2018 as a team, but there were many positives to take away from an individual standpoint. Franchise quarterback Cam Newton was one player that didn’t have the most cohesive year due to his shoulder injury — but he did do a few things very well before he had to be shut down for the year.

Newton was more accurate than ever, posting his highest completion percentage in his career at 67.9 percent. He was also one of the league’s most efficient play-action passers. According to Pro Football Focus, Newton had the fourth highest passer rating in the NFL on those plays.

This is an underrated statistic for Newton and his ability to run play-action plays may only get better in 2019 with a much-improved offensive line unit.

As long as Newton’s shoulder holds up, he should be one of the top 10 quarterbacks in the league.
