Cam Newton tied for most forced missed tackles by a quarterback in 2018

Just as Michael Vick and Randall Cunningham paved the way for Cam Newton as a runner, Newton is doing the same for the next generation of dual-threat quarterbacks.

According to Pro Football Focus, Newton tied Ravens rookie Lamar Jackson for the most forced missed tackles by a quarterback in 2018 with 20. However, Newton is still in a class of his own in this regard, because he did it in 56 fewer rushing attempts.

Newton was efficient as usual as a rusher last season. He averaged 4.8 yards per carry and scored four touchdowns.

There was some hand-wringing about Norv Turner coming in and whether he would continue rushing Newton as a rushing weapon. Those fears were unfounded, as it turns out. Newton averaged 7.2 carries per game in 2018, not far off from his career average of 7.6.

Until the day comes that Newton is no longer physically able to run effectively, the Panthers should continue to rely on his mobility.
