Cam Newton led the NFL in rushing first downs per carry in 2018

Cam Newton is not only the best running quarterback in the NFL. He could well be the most effective rusher period, regardless of position.

According to Pro Football Focus, Newton led the league by averaging 0.47 first downs per carry during the 2018 season. Ravens rookie Lamar Jackson came in a distant second, averaging 0.35 first downs per tote. Here’s the complete list of the top five.

Newton may not be generally considered among the elite passers in the league, but his running production makes up for a lot.

Since he was drafted in 2011, Newton has averaged 601 rushing yards and 7.25 touchdowns per season.
