A rough season for the New England Patriots continued on Sunday with a 22-12 loss to the Miami Dolphins. The New England offense seemed to struggle, especially quarterback Cam Newton.
Despite a difficult season for Newton, he is not considering retiring from the NFL. If anything, he considers his stop in New England “a job interview.” On the year, Newton has 2,381 passing yards, five touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He also has 489 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns on the season, showing he can still be a dual-threat quarterback.
With that in mind, Newton understands that he has to play better. He does not want to retire, and he certainly does not want to end his time in the game on a frustrating note.
“No, I’m not there,” Newton said one day after a 22-12 loss to the Miami Dolphins that eliminated the Patriots from playoff contention. “One of my goals this year, for what it’s worth, was just to finish the year healthy. And this year, God has granted me and gave me the opportunity to play a healthy season.
“I still have a lot of football left, and I still want to play football. I have the urge to be better. After putting out this film? Come on, now. I can’t go out like this. I definitely can’t go out like this.”
Newton will have to make the most of New England’s final two regular season games if he wants to impress potential suitors.
