Cam Newton breaks his silence after testing positive for the coronavirus

The NFL was able to make it through the first three weeks of the 2020 season with its COVID-19 protocols holding up without a bubble (only the Falcons’ A.J. Terrell landed on the reserve/COVID list).

That changed this week.

An outbreak within the Tennessee Titans forced the season’s first postponement of a game due to COVID.

And then, New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton tested positive for the coronavirus on Friday ahead of the Week 4 matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs also had practice squad quarterback Jordan Ta’amu test positive for COVID-19. The new positive cases forced the NFL to move Sunday’s game to Monday.

On Sunday, Newton — showing off some questionable mask coverage — offered his first update on his diagnosis, taking to Instagram to thank everyone for the well wishes.

Newton wrote (without his text filter):

I NEVER WILL QUESTION GOD’s reasoning, just will always respond with, “YES LORD!!” I appreciate all the love, support and WELL WISHES!! I will take this time to get healthy and self reflect on the other AMAZING THINGS THAT I SHOULD BE GRATEFUL FOR!!

It’s unclear how Newton contracted the virus, and as of Sunday, the Patriots haven’t announced any additional positive cases. Let’s hope Newton makes a speedy recovery.
