Cam Newton appears to plunge into Patriots’ playbook in Instagram post

Cam Newton isn’t wasting any time with the 2020 NFL season around the corner.

The freshly-acquired New England Patriots quarterback is extremely motivated after sitting on the free agent list for months. Just days after signing with the Patriots, he caught up with Mohamed Sanu and got acquainted with his new receiver.

Newton, 31, still has a ton of work to put in and knowledge to obtain before September. The Patriots have second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer on the depth chart — both with deep understanding of the playbook. Newton hasn’t officially been announced as the starter and his comprehension of the team’s plays will be instrumental in earning the role.

Newton shared an Instagram photo on Tuesday and it appears that he’s studying the playbook. He even gave a shoutout to his No. 1 receiver, Julian Edelman.

Becoming the team’s starter for Week 1 will be a difficult feat, but a former NFL MVP should be able to grab the role before then.
