Calvin Ramsay 'to finalise' £4m Liverpool transfer as Aberdeen rising star nears Anfield

Quadruple-chasing Liverpool are reportedly closing in on a £4m deal to secure Aberdeen rising right-back Calvin Ramsay.

The 18-year-old Pittodrie star's head-turning displays had placed him firmly on the radar of sides such as Bologna and Leeds United.

But the Mail on Sunday report it's Liverpool who will win out for a player who is regarded by many as one of the most talented teenagers in European football.

Record Sport revealed in January that a last-gasp £4.8 bid from Bologna had been turfed out and the looming switch to Liverpool will likely include several add-ons.

Jurgen Klopp's powers of persuasion also convinced 16-year-old Celtic academy star Ben Doak to swap Glasgow for Anfield.

Ramsay has made 33 appearances this season, with his rampaging displays from right back a rare highlight amid a campaign to forget in the Granite City.

And now the Scotland youth international is set to land Aberdeen a record sale that will go towards Jim Goodwin's Pittodrie revamp.

Ramsay wasn't risked in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Hibs as all roads leads to Merseyside.

Goodwin, speaking after the game, said: "Calvin is only a young man and he has played a hell of a lot of football up to now.

"He has a slight, little niggle on his calf. He probably could have played and got through it, but I didn't really see the point in putting the young fella at risk, to be honest.

"He wanted to play, but I made the decision it was probably sensible we rested him up.

"He might be available for Wednesday after having the break this weekend, but it is very hard for these teenagers when they come into the first team and play in the Premier League.

"It is very intense, week in, week out. He has had a great season ? being involved as a nominee in the young player awards and that kind of stuff is great recognition for what he has done this season ? but we need to protect him as well at times.

"If I had played him today and his calf had gone, he is looking at six weeks out during the summer and nobody wants that."
