Calvin Johnson approved to get medical marijuana dispensing license

Sorry, I couldn’t have gotten this out at 4:20, but such is life…

Former Detroit Lion wide receiver Calvin Johson has been pre-approved to open up a medical marijuana dispensary. This was the quiet-spoken receivers second attempt at getting approved.  His first bid got denied when they found out he had old traffic tickets in Atlanta, some of which were more than 10 years old.

After he got that straightened out, he applied again and got the green light.  Or more like the yellow light.  The business still will need to go through the approval process in the city/location he decides to open it. While the location is not 100 percent certain, the license was applied from Bloomfield Hills in suburban Detroit. Calvin’s wife, Brittany, will be his partner this go round.

In Johnson’s first bid, another former Lion, guard Rob Sims, partnered with him. Sims and Johnson are still appealing their first denial.

Johnson is hoping that this will be a thriving business across the state of Michigan. Despite the NFL’s drug policy, many current and former players do use marijuana for its pain relieving benefits.  As more and more states are legalizing marijuana, it will be interesting to see how (if) the NFL will update/amend its policy.
