Calvin Harris says doctors saved his life after his heart stopped beating

Calvin Harris has revealed how doctors saved his life in 2014 by successfully restarting his heart after it stopped beating.

The Scottish DJ spoke out about his health scare on Twitter last night (19 May) while reflecting on what was an “interesting year”.

Responding to a video a fan posted of his Electric Daisy Carnival set in 2014. Harris wrote: “Interesting year for me 2014, started with me knocking myself off number 1 in the UK and ended with my heart getting restarted in the ER.”

After being diagnosed with arrhythmia, a heart rhythm problem, Harris also pulled out of the 2014 MTV EMAs.

In 2018, Harris said arrhythmia was behind his decision to become sober.

Replying to a fan who asked about his early career, he said: “The last thing I want to do is down 2 bottles of jack daniels a night, live on greggs pasties and sleep on an absolutely stinking bus all year, scream down a mic for 55 minutes and pretend to play a keyboard 5x a week those days are behind me son.”

He told another fan he got “in a right old state” and when asked if he was “pished”, replied: “Haven’t drank in 4 years big man”.

He added: “Aye things are a bit less fun but haven’t had an arrhythmia since 2014”.
