'Calvin Harris' becomes next big baseball star in US leaving fans of Scots DJ confused

Calvin Harris appears to have swapped the stages and festivals of the music world for the ballpark.

That's what plenty have begun to think anyway given that a new baseball star has been getting a lot of attention in the USA - and happens to share the same name as the Dumfries-born DJ and producer.

All eyes were on the Iowa-born slugger midweek as he helped his team, Ole Miss Rebels, come within one game from appearing in the College World Series - the college version of the Major League Baseball World Series.

Their victory over Arkansas Razorbacks was declared 'the Calvin Harris game', such was the performance by the 21-year-old right-fielder, with his four runs helping the attract attention of baseball fans across the USA in the process.

But the fresh hype over his ability with the bat has also naturally sparked much confusion - and hilarity - among fans of Scotland's very own Calvin Harris - who will perform his hits in front of thousands at Hampden Park next month.

One person tweeted: "Giggles, there's a baseball player for Ole Miss whose name is Calvin Harris, giggles."

Another fan shared a GIF of the Dumfries Calvin Harris and tweeted: "Ole Miss has a Calvin Harris on their team".

Baseball site CWS247 went one further to label the slugger "Calvin "met you in the summer" Harris", tweeting: "Calvin "met you in the summer" Harris YAK 363 feet, Ole Miss leads 8-3 in the 5th".

Joining them was an Ole Miss fan page, which tweeted: "Some guy named Calvin Harris keeps doing big things for Ole Miss."

And a further fan name-checked a Calvin Harris song, tweeting: "Calvin Harris Feels So Close to being the star of the game. From the nine-hole, he launches a two-run homer and now Ole Miss is up 8-3 in the fifth."

Even Draft Kings, the world's leading Daily Fantasy Sports brand, joined other high-profile sports or baseball accounts in mentioning him in tweets as "Calvin Harris (not the DJ)" to stave off any confusion.

Tweeting during the Arkansas game, they wrote: "Calvin Harris (not the DJ) launches a 2 run shot to extend the Ole Miss lead over Arkansas 8-3!" To which one fan responded: "Would have been cooler if he did tho!" along with a video of our Calvin Harris.

We can only imagine that if Ole Miss Rebels end up winning the College World Series the name confusion will only grow more arms and legs!
